India Friday granted permission to three Pakistani officials for consular access to injured prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay in a Chandigarh hospital.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin gave the information in a tweet.
Sanaullah, who was critically injured in an assault on him inside Jammu's Kot Bhalwal Jail, was flown to Chandigarh and admitted to the ICU of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in the evening.
The Pakistani prisoner was flown from Jammu to Chandigarh in an air ambulance for treatment.
"He has been admitted to the ICU. His condition is critical and tests will be conducted on him," a PGIMER source said.
Tight security arrangements were made in the wing where Sanaullah has been admitted.
The attack of Sanaullah came just a day after Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh died in Lahore following brutal attack on him in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Sanaullah, a resident of Sialkot, was attacked by a former Indian Army soldier, convicted for murder, following an altercation Friday morning, a police officer said.
