Three 'RAW agents' acquitted in Pakistan

A Karachi court has acquitted three Pakistani men who were branded agents of the Indian spy agency RAW for lack of evidence, the media reported on Sunday.

An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Saturday the three in five cases of possessing explosives and illicit weapons, the Dawn said.

The three were identified as Tahir alias Lamba, Junaid Khan and Imtiaz. They were arrested in Karachi in April last year.

Police had alleged that they belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and were trained by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Judge Abdul Naeem Memon exonerated the accused, the Dawn said. The court ruled that the prosecution could not establish the guilt beyond any shadow of doubt.

The court also said there were glaring contradictions in the documentary evidence and testimonies of the prosecution witnesses.
