Three school students standing by the roadside in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district were crushed to death by a speeding truck, police said on Saturday.
"The incident took place in Gopinathpur on Friday evening when Tushar Debnath, Saathi Kirtania and Reba Halder, all aged 15, were out for their tuition class," a police officer said.
He said that the students were not standing at a wrong place, but before they could react, they came under the wheels of the speeding truck.
"Apparently, the driver was drunk. He tried to flee but has been intercepted by personnel from a nearby police station," he added.
