The Tibetan parliament-in-exile on Friday congratulated the new speaker of the US House of Representatives, Paul D. Ryan and hoped for continuation of support to the cause of Tibet.
"On behalf of all the Tibetan people, the Tibetan parliament-in-exile wishes to congratulate you for being elected as the speaker of the United States House of Representatives," Speaker Penpa Tsering said.
"We express our gratitude to the government and to the people of the US for extending unequivocal support towards the issue of Tibet and we hope it will be continued until we find a lasting solution for the long-standing issue of Tibet," the speaker wrote in the congratulatory letter.
Ryan, the former nominee for vice-president, was elected as the 54th speaker of the House of Representatives on Thursday.
