The Tihar Jail here registered a record turnover of Rs.32.17 crore in 2012-13 against a turnover of Rs.12.20 crore during the previous year.
The prisons's carpentry section, where inmates are employed during their imprisonment, generated Rs.23.14 crore and the bakery section did business worth Rs.4.97 crore in the last fiscal year, an official statement said Saturday.
The jail houses around 12,000 inmates.
The carpentry section recorded an increase in the turnover by scaling up its supply of desks to city government schools.
During the last financial year, the supply of the desks to government schools was increased from around 225 to 400 per day, the statement said.
