The Kari motor speedway here will come alive over the weekend as India's top 40 young drivers try and power their machines in thea quest for glory at the third round of the 13th JK Tyre-FMSCI national Rotax karting championship.
The action begins on Saturday with the qualifying rounds and will culminate on Sunday when the daredevils go full throttle to consolidate their leadership positions or jostle to move up the leaderboard.
The races will see action in three categories, the micro max for kids between 7 and 12 years, junior max for kids between 13 and 16 years and senior max for youngsters over 15 years.
Sanjay Sharma, head of JK Tyre's Motorsports said that he was really excited as the championship enters its crucial mid-stage.
"We have already seen two exciting rounds. I am expecting our future race heroes to go all out as they consolidate their leadership positions. I am particularly looking forward to the Senior Max race as the top three drivers are virtually sitting on the same number of points," Sharma said.
Ricky Donison leads the senior max division with 165 points, having won the first two races. He, however, only has a solitary point lead, with Ameya Bafna of Rayo Racing and Vishnu Prasad of Meco Racing on 164 points each. Dhruv Mohite of Mohites Racing is hot on their heels though on 163 points.
In the junior max category, stiff competition is expected between Meco Racing teammates Nirmal Umashankar (166 points) and Paul Francis (163 points) although they are way behind the current championship leader.
Manav Sharma of BPC Racing (171 points) holds that distinction having won the opening round and having finished fourth in Round 2.
In the micro max category, Meco Racing again are strong contenders for the title. Their ace driver Shahan Ali Mohsin is sitting pretty on 173 points while Arjun Nair is at the second place with 162 points. Ruhaan Alva of Peregrine Racing is sandwiched between them on 169.
