At least 30 people were killed and several others injured in a train derailment in Kasai province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, authorities said on Monday.

According to information from police, most of the dead passengers on Sunday were stowaways who boarded the train carrying mainly goods, reports Xinhua news agency.

For the moment, the hospital authorities have confirmed the recovery of at least 30 bodies.

Several seriously wounded people were taken by police to a hospital near the accident site.

The central part of the country regularly records rail accidents due to deterioration of the tracks and aging locomotives that date back to colonial years.
