Three members of a family were killed and several injured when dacoits attacked a house in Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday.
Around midnight, the dacoits barged into the house, beat up a couple and their mother to death, before running away with the valuables.
Angered by the incident, villagers disrupted traffic on a major road and pelted stones at the police on Friday.
The police teams had to resort to tear gas shelling and cane charging to disperse them to take possession of the bodies. Several media persons were also injured in the clash.
A few of the family members were battling for their lives at a hospital, said Superintendent of Police Piyush Srivastava, who rushed to the crime scene to pacify the angry villagers.
