A Tripura court on Wednesday sentenced to death two tribal youths for raping and murdering a 12-year-old tribal girl last year, police said.
"Kamalpur (in northern Tripura) Additional Sessions Judge Arindam Paul awarded death sentence to Rashida Tripura, 25, and Jhani Tripura, 20, for raping and murdering the 12-year-old girl at Raishyabari on February 7 last year," Dhalai district police chief Bijoy Debbarma told IANS.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 on each of the convicts.
The police chief said the two took the victim to a jungle close to their homes, and raped her before killing her brutally.
Dhalai district's Additional Superintendent of Police Kishore Debbarma investigated the case and submitted a chargesheet to the court.
