Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao has won from both the Medak Lok Sabha and the Gajwel assembly constituencies.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, will retain the assembly seat as he will be heading the TRS government in Telangana, party leaders said.

The TRS chief won the Medak parliamentary seat by 4.70 lakh votes. He was also elected from Gajwel, an assembly segment under the same parliamentary constituency, by 19,391 votes.

KCR, who floated the TRS in 2001 to achieve separate statehood to Telangana, has been elected to the assembly for the first time. He is likely to be unanimously elected the leader of TRS legislature party Saturday.

The 60-year-old is set to become the first chief minister of newly created Telangana state as his party was heading for a clear majority in the 119-member assembly.

KCR was elected to parliament from Karimnagar in 2004 and from Mahabubnagar in 2009.
