Two robbers have been arrested in connection with a broad daylight robbery in a jewellery shop in the national capital, police said on Saturday.
Police said the accused persons -- Rakesh Rastogi, 57, and Raja Ram Deshmukh, 55, natives of Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh -- were wanted for a sensational robbery, committed on June 15 in a jewellery shop in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area.
"Rastogi and Deshmukh were arrested on Saturday afternoon from Botanical Garden Metro Station in Noida's Sector 37 following a tip-off. Police also recovered robbed gold jewellery valued at several lakhs of rupees from their possession," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh told IANS.
"Police had on June 27 arrested their other associates, identified as Azeem, 26, Dilshad Mohammad, 26, and Saurabh Verma, 24, from different areas of Uttar Pradesh. With covered faces and carrying firearms and meat choppers, they entered victim Pramod Jain's jewellery shop in Malviya Nagar," Singh said.
They threatened Jain and escaped with all the jewellery, valued at Rs 65 lakh, from his shop, the police officer added.
"Both Rastogi and Deshmukh are being produced in the court and will be taken on police remand to unearth the entire conspiracy of the daring robbery. Several teams of south District are conducting raids at Bijnor, Moradabad and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh to arrest the remaining accused," he added.
