Two militants were killed Tuesday in north Kashmir when the army foiled a second infiltration bid in two days from across the Line of Control (LoC).
Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh, commander of the army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps said: "Today (Tuesday) morning, five to six terrorists tried to infiltrate in Machil sector. Two of them have been killed and the rest have run back across the LoC."
"In Kupwara district yesterday (Monday), three terrorists tried to infiltrate but our alert soldiers foiled the infiltration bid. One of the terrorists was killed on our side of the LOC. Another died on the other side of the LOC while the third terrorist has been injured," he added.
"A third operation against terrorists is presently going on in Handwara (Kupwara) Hafruda forests. Our soldiers have shown professionalism during counter-insurgency operations," he said.
Replying to a question on the terror infrastructure, the corps commander said: "The terror infrastructure across and on the LoC is intact, but we have a very effective intelligence network. Information sharing and joint assessment of the intelligence information is very effective."
He said there are a number of terrorist camps and launch pads operative across the LoC, but the army is now better placed to analyse and assess the capabilities of the terrorists.
Asked about the number of militants active in the camps and waiting to sneak into the Kashmir Valley, he said: "Numbers are not important. What is important is their intention. Infiltration attempts are still continuing, but we have excellent support from the people in fighting terrorism."
