A special police officer (SPO) was shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town Sunday morning, police said.
The militants opened fire at SPO Mudasir Ahmad near his home in Untoo Hamam locality of the town. "Mudasir succumbed to bullet injuries on the spot," a senior police officer said.
"Security forces rushed to the spot and a search is on for the militants," he added.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the policeman's killing.
On Friday, the guerrillas shot and injured a sarpanch (village head) in the town while he was leaving a mosque after offering prayers.
