At least two people were killed and three injured when a truck plunged into a ditch after protesters hurled a bomb at it in Bangladesh Friday, the third day of opposition's countrywide indefinite blockade, police said.
The people killed in Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur were identified as Md Shah Newaz, the driver, and Adinur Rahman, an onion trader, The Daily Star quoted Ahsan Habib, officer in charge of Hakimpur Police Station as saying.
Meanwhile, miscreants set fire to an Awami League office in Comilla.
In another incident, at least three people, including a woman passenger, sustained severe burn injuries when miscreants hurled a bomb at a bus near Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital Friday morning.
Of the three victims, the condition of two, including the woman, were stated to be critical. They are now undergoing treatment in the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
The bus came under attack at Paribagh near the hotel around 7 a.m. when it was heading towards Farmgate, said Mozammel Haque, officer in charge of DMCH police station.
The attacks took place when the country is witnessing an indefinite blockade of roads, rail and waterways since Jan 1.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led 18-party opposition alliance enforced the blockade demanding cancellation of what it termed as one-sided national polls slated for Jan 5.
