Delhi Police said on Wednesday they had busted the infamous "thak, thak" gang by arresting two criminals who would knock on car windows to distract the attention of motorists before robbing them.
P. Silva and P. Chandru, both residents of Madangir in south Delhi, both brothers, were taken into custody on Tuesday with their "weapons" - an engine oil bottle, a catapult and a needle - as well as five stolen laptops, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar said.
The gang members were intercepted when a team of Special Staff saw a scooty and signalled its driver to stop, Kumar said.
The brothers revealed they had committed several robberies in Delhi and neighbouring areas.
As part of their modus operandi, one of the criminals would knock on the window of the car and persuade the motorist to come out, citing a problem with the vehicle.
As soon as the car driver stepped out, the other member of the gang would quickly take out valuables from inside the car including laptops. In no time, the gang members would disappear.
