Two people committed suicide by jumping onto the metro tracks in separate incidents here on Thursday, police said.

The first incident took place at Pul Bungash metro station, located on the Red Line, in north Delhi where a 75-year-old unidentified man jumped onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train around 11.43 a.m.

Police said the man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Lalit Uppal, 40, died in the second incident reported from Ramesh Nagar metro station in west Delhi around 3.30 p.m.

Police said Uppal, a resident of Mandawali in east Delhi, jumped in front of a metro train plying on the Dwarka-Noida City Centre route.

"Uppal was identified by the driving licence recovered from his possession. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital," said a police officer.

According to the official, the reasons behind both the suicides are yet to be established as no suicide note was recovered from their possession.

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official said the commuters had to face inconvenience for about 10 minutes after each of the two incidents.
