Rome, June 26 (IANS/AKI) Two 10-year-old cousins from Senegal drowned in a lake in northwest Italy as they tried to retrieve a football, the daily Corriere di Novara reported.
The tragedy happened around 4 p.m. on Sunday at Lago di Orta near the city of Novara in the Piedmont region when the two boys got into difficulty as they tried to return to the shore.
A swimmer managed to pull one boy from the water but firemen were unable to revive him. Frogmen recovered the second boy's body from the bed of the lake at a depth of 10 metres.
