Typhoon kills 26 in Philippines

At least 26 people have died and 18 injured as Typhoon Koppu made landfall in the Philippines, authorities said on Wednesday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 194,387 families or 907,267 people were affected by the Sunday typhoon, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 140 road sections and 28 bridges have been damaged due to flooding and landslides. Power interruptions were reported in nine cities and 73 municipalities.

The estimated cost of damages to agriculture and infrastructure has been put at around $140 million.
