Abu Dhabi, Oct 22 (IANS/WAM) The Emirates Identity Authority of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced its joining of the International Secure Identity Alliance as an Advisory Observer. It will be represented by its Director-General, Ali Mohamed Al Khouri.
The move comes in response to an official invitation from the board of the alliance to participate in two international workgroups - 'Secure Documents' and 'e-Identity' - organised by the alliance.
The Secure Identity Alliance brings together stakeholders from across the secure electronic document industry to help develop usage of government-issued electronic documents such as ID and health cards, driving licences and e-passports, among others.
It aims to enhance security, provide secure and user-friendly online services and strengthen privacy.
Emirates ID is the first government entity to receive an invitation to join the alliance.
Frederic Trojani, chairman of the alliance, sent a letter to Al Khouri in which he commended the paper presented by the latter at the World e-ID Congress in Nice, France in September this year.
Emirates ID participated as an organising member in the conference which was attended by more than 1500 government officials and international experts.
Trojani hailed Emirates ID's world class achievements in developing an advanced identity management system in the UAE.
Al Khouri said that choosing Emirates ID as a member in the Secure Identity Alliance reflects the UAE's experience at a global level in developing an advanced integrated ID management system to enhance national and individual security of citizens and residents.
