Vice-President and Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the release of 734 prisoners in Dubai, media reported on Thursday.
Al Maktoum ordered freeing of the prisoners serving terms at various reformative and punitive institutions in Dubai on Wednesday on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, reported Khaleej Times.
"Public prosecution has started the legal procedures to implement the orders, in collaboration with Dubai Police," Dubai Attorney-General Issam Al Humaidan said.
"The gesture is aimed at giving prisoners a new opportunity to join the community and bring happiness to their families," Al Humaidan added.
