UAE's RCA distributes 144 tonnes of food in Malawi

Lilongwe (Malawi), August 2 (IANS/WAM) The UAE Red Crescent Authority has distributed 144 tonnes of food to 5,000 families affected by drought in the southern African republic of Malawi.

The food was given out in cooperation with the Malawian Red Cross in six provinces.

Approximately 1.7 million people - 11 percent of the population - are threatened with severe food shortage.

The RCA team distributed food in Mtakta village in Dedza province, about 160 km south of the capital Lilongwe.
