The UN General Assembly on Tuesday opened its 70th session, the media reported.
The much-anticipated Post-2015 Development Agenda is expected to be adopted at an upcoming summit from September 25-27, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.
"It is a great honour for me to open the 70th session," said Mogens Lykketoft, president of this session. "The session, I hope, will be truly historical."
The 70th session, a regular yearly event, was declared open by President Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark.
He was elected to the current post by the UN General Assembly on June 15.
Before this election, Lykketoft was the speaker (president) of the Danish Parliament, a position he had held since 2011.
