The UN General Assembly is to vote Dec 6 over whether Jordan should fill a two-year term on the UN Security Council (UNSC) beginning Jan 1, 2014, the UN said Thursday.
The balloting is to fill the vacancy created when Saudi Arabia refused to take up the seat it was elected to by the Assembly Oct 17, Xinhua reported.
"A plenary meeting will be held Friday, Dec 6 ... in order to elect a non-permanent member of the Security Council," the official UN Journal said.
"The General Assembly will hold a plenary meeting at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 to elect a non-permanent member of the Security Council," the deputy spokeswoman for the president of the General Assembly, Fanny Langella, said,
