Union Rural Development Minister Birender Singh has outstanding dues of over Rs.24 takh towards the Haryana assembly.
Information obtained from the Haryana assembly by a Right to Information (RTI) activist from Hisar revealed that the minister had not paid back Rs.24.23 lakh that he availed under the head of house loan and car loan.
Birender Singh was earlier a Congress legislator in the Haryana assembly (2004-2009). He was the state's finance minister also.
He switched over to the Bharatiya Janata Party in July last year before the state assembly polls.
He had availed of a housing loan of over Rs.25 lakh in 2007 and car loan of Rs.10 lakh in 2009 and had only repaid part of it.
The RTI reply, obtained by activist Naresh Kumar, revealed that 13 Haryana legislators were yet to pay outstanding dues to the assembly.
