The Uttar Pradesh unit of the Congress on Thursday announced a state-wide agitation against the central government move to discontinue postal stamps on Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
The Congressmen would oppose the move tooth and nail and protest against the government decision in all districts of the state on Friday, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Nirmal Khatri said.
"This is a deliberate and sad move by the BJP-led government to humiliate the two late leaders. We cannot be expected to be mute spectators," Khatri said.
Both Congress leaders, he pointed out, were much above politics and national leaders who came from Uttar Pradesh and gave India an identity the world over.
"While Indira Gandhi made India a nuclear power, Rajiv Gandhi ushered in the information technology era in the country," the Congress state president said while exhorting party workers and leaders to come out in large numbers to protest against the move.
