The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday accused Uttar Pradesh State Election Commissioner S.K. Agarwal of impropriety by treating badly the party leaders who went to meet him in his office here.
The AAP delegation had gone to apprise the SEC of the alleged lacunae in the just concluded civic body polls in Uttar Pradesh and to demand close monitoring of the counting of votes on Friday, AAP State Spokesman Vaibhav Maheshwari said.
He said that rather than accepting a memorandum and discussing the raised issues, Agarwal, a former Indian Administrative Service officer, asked the AAP leaders to leave and did not even extend the normal courtesies.
"He also lost his cool over several posers and asked us to leave his chamber immediately, instead of answering them," the AAP leader said.
"We are a party in power in Delhi and the main opposition in Punjab assembly. How can a poll official mistreat us like this?" he said.
AAP leaders claimed large-scale bungling in voters lists in the civic polls and faulty voting machines, following which it was natural for the AAP to seek a fair vote count, Maheshwari said.
"By not even listening to our demands or giving us a patient hearing, the officer has committed impropriety," the AAP leader said.
