Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu Thursday said he has written a letter to his cabinet colleagues asking them to use the Delhi Metro to help decongest traffic and reduce pollution.
Naidu, who flagged off train services on the Central Secretariat - Mandi House section of Delhi Metro's Phase-III, said: "This line will save a lot of time for commuters who want to go to Central Secretariat and will also ease pressure on the Rajiv Chowk station that hosts lakhs of passengers daily."
The three-km underground corridor has two stations - Janpath and Mandi House. It is expected to serve 70,000 additional commuters.
Mandi House station will provide interchange facility with the currently operational Dwarka Sector-21 to Noida City Centre line.
The third phase of Delhi Metro is slated to be completed by the end of 2016.
