Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday welcomed the Narendra Modi government's move to demonetise currency notes of the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
In a statement here, the VHP said the move will "not just curb black money but also hit hard terrorism and smuggling activities".
Terming the government's move as a "historic and bold" step, VHP International Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain appealed to people to cooperate with the government and implement it whole heartedly in the national interest, even though they might experience some temporary difficulties.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi surprised the nation by declaring that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes will not be legal tender from Tuesday midnight, unleashing a new war against black money and terrorism.
