Vice President Hamid Ansari on Monday condoled the death of former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir.
Kabir, 68, died at a private hospital in Kolkata on Sunday due to renal complications. He leaves behind his wife Minna, son Deep and daughter Anamika.
"I am deeply saddened to learn the demise of Altamas Kabir. He will be remembered for his contributions to the strengthening of the judicial system in India and for his learned judgements, particularly on human rights and election laws," Ansari said in a written message.
"I convey my sincere condolences to the bereaved members of the family and join the nation in praying for eternal peace for the departed soul."
