Vietnam has secured three weightlifting berths to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, the Vietnam Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation confirmed on Monday.
This is the first time Vietnam has obtained three berths in a single sport for an Olympic Games, reports Xinhua.
At the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships just concluded in the United States, Vietnamese Thach Kim Tuan bagged a bronze in the men's 56kg category.
Tuan and his compatriots, Tran Le Quoc Toan and Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan are most likely to be sent to the Rio Games, said the federation.
Winning a silver at Beijing Games in 2008, Tuan is the only Vietnamese weightlifter to grab an Olympic medal.
Vietnam has so far officially won six berths to the Rio Games. Besides the three weightlifting ones, one berth is for swimming (secured by Nguyen Thi Anh Vien) and two for shooting (gained by Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong).
