Vijay Keshav Gokhale named India's ambassador to China

Vijay Keshav Gokhale, India's ambassador to Germany, was on Wednesday named the ambassador to China.

"Viiay Keshav Gokhale (Indian Foreign Service - 1981), currently ambassador of India to the Federal Republic of Germany, has been appointed as the next ambassador of India to the People's Republic of China," an official statement said.

Gokhale will replace Ashok K. Kantha in Beijing.

Apart from Germany, Gokhale has served in Indian missions in Hong Kong, Hanoi, Beijing and New York.

In South Block where the external affairs ministry is located, he has served as director (China and East Asia) and joint secretary (East Asia).
