Over a hundred villagers killed a wild bear that had injured a man and subsequently set the body ablaze in Odisha, an official said Saturday.
According to Forest Range Officer R.R. Gadanayak, the incident occurred near Turumunga village in the district of Keonjhar Friday. Forest officials reached the site after the animal had been killed.
The villagers chased the 10-year-old bear and attacked it with stones and sticks after it attacked a man in the area Friday morning. Angry villagers then set the body of the bear ablaze, the forest official said.
The injured man is recuperating at a hospital.
The district headquarters of Keonjhar is about 235 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
