The national capital experienced another consecutive warm winter day on Wednesday with the maximum temperature five notches above the season's average at 24.7 degrees Celsius, the Met office said. Light rain may occur at a few places on Thursday.

Delhi residents, who usually covered with woollen clothes and jackets in January every year, may feel a bit cold on Thursday compared to last few days as light rain with thunder shower is likely to occur at a few places in the city.

The Met Office has forecast a foggy morning on Thursday and further spells of light rain in the day giving some relief to the residents from the prevailing extra-warm weather.

"The sky would be partly cloudy on Thursday with light rain and thunder showers likely to occur at a few places. Dense fog may occur in the morning," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 25 and 11 degrees Celsius, respectively, it said.

The national capital had suffered with highest warm winter day on Wednesday in the first week of January.

The IMD office has attributed the absence of "western disturbances (WDs)" a reason behind the sudden change in weather in the national capital.

Skymet Weather Services Pvt Ltd has mentioned three key weather phenomena a cause for the unusually warm winter this year.

"Absence of stronger western disturbances, presence of an anti-cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and 2015 as El Nino year, which made the year warmest on record, are the reasons behind the warmer winter," it said.

Thursday's minimum temperature settled at 11.6 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average, while the maximum humidity was 100 percent.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average.
