As the mercury rose to 25 degrees Celsius in Delhi during the day on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department forecast a slightly warm week ahead even as mornings were expected to remain cold.

The national capital on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 5.7 degrees, two notches below the season's average. The maximum was 25 degrees, five notches above the season's average.

According to the IMD, due to a western disturbance, which has now passed, the mercury has risen at several places across northern and north-western parts of the country.

The minimum and maximum temperatures in Delhi will, however, remain the same.

"The maximum is expected to remain at 25 degrees and the minimum around 6 degrees till January 20," an IMD official said.

The weather office expects visibility to improve over the week, he added.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday was 97 per cent and the visibility stood at 1,000 metres. By 5.30 p.m., the humidity had reduced to 49 per cent.

The weather conditions have helped in improvement in the ambient air quality of Delhi, with Air Quality Index (AQI) on Sunday at 308 as against 357 on Saturday on a scale of 0 to 500 -- both considered "very poor".

Saturday's maximum temperature was recorded at 23 degrees and the minimum at 5.5 degrees Celsius.
