Wasn't meant to go our way: Scotland captain

Scotland skipper Preston Mommsen described their six-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the cricket World Cup as a result that was not meant to go in their favour.

Scotland had put up a formidable score of 318/8 in a Pool A match at the Saxton Oval. But the Bangladesh batsmen put the Scottish bowling to the sword as they registered the second highest successful chase in World Cup history with 11 balls to spare.

"We had time off after the Afghanistan game. We came back refreshed and were up for it. That showed in the first half but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be," said Mommsen, who scored 39 runs.

The skipper, however, praised opener Kyle Coetzer's knock of 156 which is the highest score by an individual from an Associate team.

"It was brilliant to see Kyle Coetzer at his best. It's a huge moment for the team. I was fortunate enough to be out there for most of that acceleration period. And some of the strokes that he was playing were brilliant to see," he said.

The 27-year-old said that his side has been playing good cricket and are looking forward to playing the next two games.

"Throughout the four games we showed that we were able to play good cricket. It's just a case of us playing good cricket for a longer time now. Two very tough games to come but that's all the more exciting and something that we are very much looking forward to," concluded Mommsen.

Scotland, who have lost all four World Cup matches, next play Sri Lanka on March 11 and Australia on March 13 in Hobart.
