Shane Watson says he will decide on his international cricket future at the conclusion of the World Twenty20 tournament being held in India.

Watson admitted that he was "pleasantly surprised" when he got the call-up for Australia's T20 side to take on India in January after he was overlooked for the preceding One-Day International (ODI) series.

"There's no doubt I'll have a bit of time to think about it (international retirement) after the T20 World Cup. I'll reassess from there," Watson told cricket.com.au on Wednesday.

But for now, the 34-year-old has a golden opportunity to bow out of the international arena by winning the one global trophy that has eluded Australia.

"There's no doubt to win the T20 World Cup, we came very close in 2010 making the final, so that certainly would be an incredible thing to be a part of," he said.

"At this point in time I'm still just living the dream with the cricket that I'm able to play and the teams I'm able to play in. I'm not sure where that's going to take me in the short term. At the moment I'm loving the opportunity of being back in the Australian squad and hopefully we can win the T20 World Cup."

Watson added that they have given themselves the best chance of winning the trophy because of the talented squad that is available to them.

"We've got a bit of improvement to go and more consistency in how we're playing to give ourselves that chance, but we've got the talented squad here to be able to give ourselves the best chance," he said.
