Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka bowed out of the Dubai Championships after going down to Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur, while Spain's Fernando Verdasco managed to advance to the second round after beating Italian Andreas Seppi here on Tuesday.
Wawrinka was defeated in his first match since the Australian Open semi-finals, as 24-year-old Dzumhur beat him 7-6 (4), 6-3, reports Efe.
Dzumhur will now take on Spaniard Marcel Granollers in the second round, who eliminated the Czech Jiri Vesely.
Verdasco defeated Andreas Seppi 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 22 minutes, and will play against countryman Roberto Bautista, who previously eliminated the Russian Karen Khachanov.
