We deserve to be on top: Leicester City midfielder King

Leicester City midfielder Andy King feels they are exactly where they deserve to be after surging clear at the top of the English Premier League (EPL) table with a victory over Chelsea on Monday night.

With just one defeat in 16 games and a two-point cushion between themselves and second-placed Arsenal, some may assume there's growing pressure on low-profile football club Leicester, but if there is, it's not something that the squad is feeling at the moment, according to King.

"I don't think we're thinking too much like that but we are up there on merit," King told the club's website lcfc.com on Wednesday.

"There's still a long way to go but we're just enjoying the ride. We showed that again with our performance. Everyone was playing with freedom and we also showed that we're up there on merit," the Wales international added.

"We obviously watched the games at the weekend and saw that this was a real chance. A couple of teams slipped up over the weekend and it's funny saying that against the current champions but we were confident going into the match and we showed that on the pitch."

N'Golo Kante and Drinkwater have occupied the central midfield berths in recent weeks but a hamstring injury to the latter in the 16th minute meant that it was King's time to shine, and he didn't disappoint.

"At that stage, after 15 or 20 minutes, it can catch you by surprise but fortunately I managed to get up to speed quickly," the 27-year-old said.

"Obviously all the boys around me helped too. It was good to be back out there and helping the team to get three points."
