Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday said the successful assessment of India's National Regulatory Authority by the World Health Organisation (WHO) will boost the government's efforts towards quality healthcare.

"The successful outcome of the WHO conducted assessment of the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) of India is a big boost to the government's efforts towards quality healthcare, for which the government is committed to," said Nadda here after the WHO congratulated India for the achievement.

According to WHO, National Regulatory Authority of India (NRA) and affiliated institutions on February 17, 2016 successfully met the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool requirements for a functional vaccine regulatory system.

Some of the affiliated institutions include the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the Central Drugs Laboratory.

Nadda said that WHO has termed the 100 per cent compliance in the WHO assessment (benchmarking) of the Indian vaccine regulatory system as another 'landmark achievement'.

"The previous WHO assessment (benchmarking) of the Indian vaccine regulatory system was conducted in 2012 during which institutional development plan (IDP) and the road map for strengthening the NRA were developed."
