Wikipedia to make debut at Kolkata Book Fair
Wikipedia, the world's largest multilingual free internet encyclopedia, is set to make its debut at the 38th International Kolkata Book Fair beginning here Jan 29, its organisers said Wednesday.
Wikipedia will launch a campaign during the fair to sign-up volunteers who can contribute to enrich its Bengali link (Banglapedia) database, besides the mother site.
"In order to develop the Bengali link, they need volunteers who can contribute to its database...they have very few Bengali articles," Tridib Chatterjee, secretary, Publishers and Booksellers Guild, told IANS.
The representatives will be present through the 12 days of the fair during which workshops would be held demonstrating the procedure to edit existing articles.
"The Wikipedia stall will occupy a prime spot in the fair," said Chatterjee.
