A woman in Reasi near Jammu is believed to have committed suicide after being allegedly gang-raped, police said on Sunday.

The two accused, Pankaj Khajuria and Paramjeet Singh, have been arrested, a police officer said here. The victim has been missing since July 24.

The officer said Khajuria had promised to marry the woman and used to call her from friend Paramjeet Singh's cell phone.

He used to engage her in long conversations and finally called her to Baradari Bridge on Chenab river in Reasi, some 60 km from Jammu.

Khajuria and Paramjeet Singh then abducted her to an under-construction house in the area and gang raped her, the police officer said.

"After this, the woman called Khajuria several times threatening that she would commit suicide by jumping into Chenab River."

The details have been established following the arrest of the accused and analysis of their cell phone call details and audio recordings.

"The father of the woman had lodged a missing report with the police on July 24. After her last telephonic conversation with Khajuria, it is believed that the woman committed suicide.

"Although this cannot be said with authority unless her body is recovered," the officer said.
