Taking a grim view on the pollution in river Yamuna, the Allahabad High Court has summoned the District Magistrate of Mathura to appear before it on August 28.
The court in Uttar Pradesh while hearing a PIL on the pollution of the river on Tuesday also expressed its displeasure over the non-submission of reports by the District Magistrate despite several directives.
The court had asked for coloured photographs of the river and also a report on the state of pollution. But it has not been given to the court as yet.
A bench of Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Krishna Singh hearing the petition by the Shri Yamuna Seva Sansthan slammed the district administration for failing to furnish the details it sought.
The petitioner contended the river was so heavily polluted that fishes in it were dying and the local administration and the municipal corporation have turned a blind eye.
The court also expressed its displeasure that instead of submitting the report sought, the district authorities were seeking more time.
