Yingluck Shinawatra allowed to go on Europe tour

Former Thai premier Yingluck Shinawatra has been allowed to leave the country for a European tour starting July 20 until early next month.

Winthai Suvaree, spokesman of Thailand's National Council for Peace and Order, announced Thursday that the former leader has got permission from top ruler Prayuth Chan-ocha to leave on a private tour to European states from July 20 until Aug 10.

Yingluck's only son, Supasek Amornchat, will accompany her, Xinhua reported citing sources.

"Ms Yingluck has so far abided by the NCPO orders or never breached the agreement which she earlier reached with the NCPO. Given such good cooperation on her part, she has been granted permission to leave for an overseas tour as requested," Winthai said.

Following the bloodless coup May 22, the NCPO has banned all politicians and political activists from getting involved in political activity or departing the country for any reason unless otherwise allowed by Prayuth.

All politicians attached to the once-ruling Pheu Thai Party, which was the main coalition party in Yingluck government, had reported to the military junta except for a few, including former party leader and former interior minister Charupong Ruangsuwan, who claimed to have set up an anti-military movement overseas under the name of the Organization of Free Thais for Human Rights and Democracy.

According to a source personally close to Yingluck, the former premier will not seek exile overseas and will definitely return home next month after her European tour.
