Yogi Adityanath congratulates Kovind on being elected President

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday congratulated NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind on being elected the next President of India.

Terming his election a moment of pride and honour, Adityanath said under the guidance of Kovind the honour of the country would be restored.

The 71-year-old President-elect comes from a village in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Adityanath said it was due to the positive thinking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary Board that the nation has got "such a fine person as President, one who has an impeccable record in a long public life".

Kovind comes from a rural background and his election will raise the social standing of the rural people and the Dalit community, Yogi added.

Yogi also pointed out that Kovind has always worked for the welfare of the poor, Dalits and the marginalised sections of the society, and that his election would further develop the social awareness in the country.

Kovind, backed by the National Democratic Alliance, was elected the 14th President of India on Thursday with a massive margin over his United Progressive Alliance rival Meira Kumar in a straight fight.
