The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has gone tech savvy. It has discarded the old staid format of presenting its audit reports on government departments and schemes. No longer are these printed in a format resembling a company’s annual report. Instead, these reports are now available in compact discs, which are inserted in a hard-bound jacket. For additional effect, the jacket has a few glossy pages that outline in brief the key findings of the CAG report. Quite apart from saving substantial costs, the move will please the green brigade as well since the recourse to CDs will save many trees, even though India’s electronic waste may see a marginal rise.
