The other day a well-known anchor was interviewing External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee. At one point, he asked Mukherjee, ‘So now that Hillary is implementing CTBT, FMCT and so on, it will have to be implemented by India also?’ An exasperated Mukherjee said what the Americans did was really their concern. The anchor refused to give up and asked again — if the US ratifies these treaties, will we have to automatically follow? Mukherjee doesn’t suffer fools, but this was on television, so he politely suggested they move on to another topic.
