Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress has launched the hunt for a place to house its office in Delhi, again. Earlier, the urban development ministry had allotted the Trinamool Congress a Type-VIII — the biggest of homes in Lutyen’s Delhi — bungalow, on Maulana Azad Road for its party office. But it was soon converted into a residence for Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy under Banerjee’s instructions. Roy, Banerjee and a section of the party felt Roy’s originally-allotted residence, Flat number 181 on North Avenue, could be used as the party office to send a message that the party believed in austerity. But, as soon as Roy was given the keys of the Maulana Azad Road bungalow, he was also given a notice to vacate the flat. The outcome: Roy gets a huge bungalow, the party remains shelterless.
