Mukul Roy, minister of state for shipping, may or may not step into Mamata Banerjee’s chappals as the next Railway Minister. But her most trusted lieutenant is going to inherit her official MP accommodation in Delhi. On Sunday evening, Banerjee announced at her Delhi residence that Roy would be living there because his official bungalow would be used as the Trinamool office in Delhi. Banerjee has been living in this flat ever since she came to Delhi as an MP in 1984. Although she was entitled to a “type VIII bungalow” — the kind Sonia Gandhi and Pranab Mukherjee occupy — she refused to leave the three-bedroom flat.
