Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan called a press conference on the annual Plan allocation made to the state. To ensure that he was well prepared, he had Finance Minister Thomas Issac and State Planning Board Deputy Chief Prabhat Patnaik on either side. But all the questions from the capital’s media were on his bête noire, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarai Vijayan. An exasperated Achuthanandan burst out, “Look at my left side. Thomas Issac is the finance minister; on my right, Prabhat Patnaik is the deputy chief of state planning board. I specially brought them here so that they could talk about the Plan allocations and related issues. But you seem to be interested only in one issue. It’s better to stop this press meet.” This had some impact and a couple of questions were posed to Patnaik.
