Letters: Lessons from Japan
Business Standard New Delhi The comments by Anjuli Bhargava in her column "Learning from
Swachh Japan" (Out of the blue, April 9) made interesting reading and reminded me of a trip to Japan about 30 years ago. On the hills of Mount Fuji, in between lush green surroundings, my host stopped the car for a break. After enjoying Coke from a can, I threw the same in the jungle. The host was furious. I failed to see any reason behind his anger. After much argument, he could see my ignorance and explained "mother earth does not take this - we cannot throw". This kind of mindset has to be developed in India for becoming
swachh like Japan.
